There would be no mid-match Q&A with Pam Shriver today. CoCo Vandeweghe got her best licks in on court outside of the actual points in her second-round match against Bethanie Mattek-Sands, which she lost in surprisingly straightforward fashion, 6-2, 6-1. The highlight: CoCo completely destroying her racquet after quickly falling behind 5-0:

As it turned out, Mattek-Sands hit just 12 winners to nine unforced errors. The reality of it all was that she just needed to keep the ball in court against her error-prone opponent, sometimes a tall order for the veteran's flashy play that so often complements her eccentric style. Meanwhile, Vandeweghe got just 50 percent of her first serves in, winning only 43 percent of those points. She also won just just eight of her 21 net approaches. All in all, no good for a big-serving ballstriker such as herself. And then she was gone.

No word yet on what Carmelo Anthony made of this racquet-abusing performance.
