Roger Federer, who won both of his singles matches in Switzerland’s Davis Cup playoff victory over the Netherlands, says he is doubtful for the international team competition next year.

Federer and Stan Wawrinka played in all four of Switzerland’s Davis Cup ties in 2014, when the country claimed the title for the first time, but the 34-year-old suggested that winning once is enough. This year, Switzerland lost to Belgium in the first round of the World Group in March without Federer or Wawrinka.

“My idea was never to win it twice, the idea was always to win it once and we did that in front of a record crowd, which was a great moment for us all,” Federer was quoted as saying on DavisCup.com.

“I see this tie in isolation,” the world No. 2 continued. “Next year is an Olympic year. The summer will be very long and packed with highlights. It’s all a question of priorities. I can’t play everything and of course if I do play Davis Cup other things have to drop out.”

Severin Luthi, Federer’s coach and the Swiss Davis Cup captain, added, “It’s going to be difficult for all the players, especially for the top players. I cannot tell you. There are changes that they aren’t playing next year, but the year after. It’s difficult to say."
