Venus Williams has indicated that she might not play again this season following her defeat in Hong Kong.

Williams fell to Jelena Jankovic in the semifinals, which means she will not qualify for the WTA Finals at Singapore unless there are further withdrawals in the eight-player field. Williams is in 10th place in the standings.

However, she will qualify for the WTA Elite Trophy in Zhuhai, which is held the following week with eligible players required to play. Williams is also in position to be an alternate in Singapore, though other players could potentially move in front and take that spot.

But the 35-year-old Williams, who experienced a leg injury at Wuhan two weeks ago, did not sound eager to compete in any other events this season.

"I don't know," she told the local press in Asia. "I have been playing with an injury. I have to start to think about next year. To extend my season for three more weeks may not be ... good."

Williams won the title at Wuhan, but fell in her opening match in Beijing coming into Hong Kong.
