Kei Nishikori has withdrawn from Basel with a shoulder injury. The 25-year-old from Japan is still looking to secure his spot in the ATP World Tour Finals, but at No. 7 is 1,400 points in front of No. 9 Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, leaving him well-positioned to qualify.

Nishikori did not indicate whether the injury would prevent him from competing at the Paris Masters or in London, at the World Tour Finals. He lost in the first round of the U.S. Open and also withdrew with injury from Wimbledon.

The withdrawal puts Marcos Baghdatis into the Basel draw.

Tommy Robredo, meanwhile, will not play again this season because of a foot injury. The Spaniard withdrew from Valencia, where he reached the final a year ago and played Andy Murray in a memorable encounter, and from the Paris Masters.
