Even though Rafael Nadal has failed to win a Grand Slam or Masters 1000 title this year, former world No. 2 Alex Corretja thinks that Nadal can win a major in 2016.

Since falling in the third round of the U.S. Open to Fabio Fognini, Nadal has begun to look more like his old self in Asia and Europe. However, he has still been unable to defeat top players like Novak Djokovic (who beat him in the Beijing final), Jo-Wilfried Tsonga (who upset him in Shanghai), Roger Federer (who topped him in the Basel final) and Stan Wawrinka (who just knocked him out of Paris this week). Though in Shanghai, Nadal did beat Wawrinka.

"It's been said Rafa's not had a good year, but it hasn't been said that despite his problems this year, he is still ranked No. 6," Corretja told the Times of India. "It means once he's healthy and gets back to winning matches, the confidence will return. When you don't play for a while, you are bound to lose rhythm and you have some doubts. But when he's healthy, he's still perhaps the strongest guy on the tour. I understand Novak is playing at an amazing level at the moment. But the toughest opponent Novak can have is a Rafa in good condition. And I believe he is going to be ready to win Slams again in 2016."
