Juan Martin del Potro is aiming to start his comeback to competitive action towards the beginning of next season.

"I'm much better," the former US Open champion said in an interview with Argentine stationĀ C5N. "I hope January or February to return to the court to do what I like to do.

"My mindset is much better than a few months or few weeks ago. [My] future is on a tennis court."

Del Potro has not played since the Miami Open in March, subsequently undergoing a third procedure on his left wrist. He returned to training a couple of months ago but was still not hitting backhands. He said it had been tough getting used to not being in a routine.

"When you are used to competing in the top tournaments, you go on autopilot and are used to winning," del Potro said. "But when you play badly, are sidelined with injury then injury, then you need to be surrounded by good people."

The Argentine is now No. 578 in the rankings.
