The Davis Cup teams announced for the final has not been without some twists. The Belgians most interesting move was selecting Ruben Bemelmans for singles play over Steve Darcis.

Darcis, ranked No. 84, has had a sore forearm, but is ranked ahead of world No. 108-ranked Bemelmans. Neither player was favored against Andy Murray, and Belgium captain Johan van Herck was allowed to change his pick for the second singles rubber.

World No. 2 Murray ended up beating Bemelmans, 6-3, 6-2, 7-5 to even the tie at 1-1 on Saturday after Kyle Edmund fell to David Goffin in five sets.

Bemelmans' Davis Cup career-record is 8-11, while Darcis' is 18-14. At the U.S. Open this year, Bemelmans beat Gilles Muller and overcame Jack Sock (who was forced to retire), before losing to Stan Wawrinka.

Earlier this year, Darcis won both his singles matches against Canada in the quarterfinals, and then clinched Belgium's 3-2 win over Argentina. But in March, at an ATP Challenger in Texas, Darcis lost to Edmund in straight sets.

If Darcis had played singles, he would have had to play three matches in three days.

On Saturday, Andy and Jamie Murray defeated Goffin and Darcis in four sets to put Great Britain up 2-1.

Andy Murray will play Goffin in the first rubber on Sunday, while Bemelmans is scheduled to face Edmund afterward in what could be the deciding match.
