Perhaps lost in the shuffle during the Serena-as-Sportsperson kerfuffle, Petra Kvitova's recently announced engagement is well worth celebrating. The two-time Wimbledon winner revealed via Twitter on December 17, three days after Sports Illustrated's headline-snaring announcement, that she will wed hockey player Radek Meidl, who plays for a level-2 team in Czech Republic, Jestrabi Prostejov.

It goes without saying (so we'll say it) that the "Pojd!"-exclaiming pro is downright glowing since word went public about her relationship's next step.

Meidl is not the first sportsman named Radek who Kvitova has dated, of course. She had a high-profile romance with fellow tennis player Radek Stepanek, who had previously been engaged to Martina Hingis and married and divorced from Nicole Vaidisova. The Kvitova-Stepanek relationship reportedly ended circa April 2014. Interestingly, Kvitova said at the time of her split from Stepanek, "To combine a career and a [relationship] between two top players is sometimes impossible."

Motherhood itself hardly looks impossible as Kvitova's future is concerned. Since announcing her engagement, she has also noted on Twitter that she is passionate about play time for children.

And for all her intensity within the lines of the tennis court, "Auntie Petra" certainly has a doting side to her.

Tennis fans must hope that the happy union means good things are in store for Kvitova's on-court consistency as well. In our 2016 season previews, it was  noted that Kvitova has "the highest ceiling and the deepest floor on tour." After all, it's not just during the off-season that Serena Williams could rightly use a constant foil.
