Serena Williams dominates the WTA tour. Any ninny knows that, but many Australian Open observers are fingering Victoria Azarenka as a player who might wrestle the women's singles title from her grasp. As it turns out, these rivals hit comparable and lauded shots in recent matches. Thus the Spin dares to compare the around-the-net-post winners struck by Serena and Vika. Here goes:

Azarenka: Vika's opponent crafted a couple of deftly-angled forehands that basically set up her own shot. (If this were basketball, that foe would deserve an assist on the point scored.) From there, Azarenka just needed to blast a line drive. She happily complied and went on to win in straight sets.

Serena: In truth, Williams didn’t so much go around the net—she's no Stan Wawrinka—as she did curl a forehand missile across the top of it. Still, she looks limber and balanced and completely in control of both her body and the ball. Like Vika, she won decisively.

It says here that Serena won this battle of the fashionable forehands.
