It's making the rounds: Serena's dramatic response to being pegged by a netcord ball on one of her many ill-fated trips up there in the Australian Open final. All in all, she was 15-for-32 in her net approaches, a dreadful stat for a Williams. Volleying may be the one thing Venus still does more soundly these days.

Apart from that, Angelique Kerber took the match from Serena in true rock-steady, counter-punching style. Serena's top-level performance truly came in her post-match press conference, which was a rare opportunity for her to speak to the state of her game after losing a major final.

Here's a look at the most compelling and entertaining moments from that presser:

1. When told that she seemed happier post-final than Kerber did, Serena—who most recently starred in IBM and MINI ads and 2015's box-office comedy bomb “Pixels,” replied, "Really? Well, maybe I should get into acting."

2. “[Kerber] had an attitude that a lot of people can learn from, just to always stay positive and to never give up." In kerbing Serena's enthusiasm over the course of the match, "Angie" posted 25 winners to 13 unforced errors over three sets and more than two hours.

3. "It's interesting. Every time I walk in this room, everyone expects me to win every single match every day of my life. And as much as I would like to be a robot, I'm not." Cue the Marina and the Diamonds song! Serena has lost just five time—to four players—in major singles finals, including twice sister Venus.

4. "Once it got started, it was so intense from the beginning to the end that I didn't really have time to be nervous, and I didn't think about the record.” She was, of course, referring to Steffi Graf's 22 major singles titles.

5. "It's always tricky playing a lefty, too, because it's just different spins and different shots that you kind of have to get used to." As it turns out, Kerber is the first southpaw woman to win the Aussie Open singles trophy since Monica Seles in 1996.

6. "She had some great drop shots—twice. They were great, and just unexpected, as she hadn't hit any until the third set. I definitely could've gotten to them, but I just didn't read them in time."

7. "I think I did the best I could today. Would I give myself an A? No." Serena's lofty stats included 47 winners and 46 unforced errors. Therein lied the tale of the (net) tape.

8. The WTA tour's No. 1 star shared a telling take on goosebumps.

9. Serena offered that what she is looking forward to most about this summer's Olympic Games in Rio is playing doubles alongside Venus.

10. "She doesn't really give you a lot, so you kind of have to go out there and take everything you get." Serena tried, venturing to the net 32 times, but won just 15 of those points.

11. "I was surprised and really happy for her. I was like, 'Whoa, No. 2.' But what's after 2 is 1, so I guess I better be careful."

And so the one who perched on a throne for an instantly iconic Sports Illustrated cover in December will continue to do just that: Watch the throne.
