Nick Kyrgios won the first title of his career, grabbing attention with his emphatic victory against a solid field in Marseille.

Competing at his first event since the Australian Open, he played some of his best tennis.

"I'm not surprised that I played well, but I'm surprised I played at the level I was able to play at," he told the ATP’s website.

Kyrgios defeated Richard Gasquet, Tomas Berdych, and Marin Cilic on his way to the title. He called it one of the better runs he’s ever had.

"I backed up three days in a row with some really top-quality tennis," said the highly-touted up-and-comer, who two years ago defeated Rafael Nadal at Wimbledon.

The Australian sounded very pleased with his play, having not been broken once all week.

"I think this week was the best serving of my career," he said …”[I] returned really, really well. I thought I moved really, really good. That's the one thing in my game that's improved a lot."

Though he currently does not have a coach, Kyrgios indicated he was fit and ready coming into the tournament.

“I was training hard back home and I was doing everything that I needed to be doing,” he said.
