Maria Sharapova has withdrawn from Doha with an ongoing left arm injury.

"Unfortunately, I will not be able to play the Qatar Total Open because of my left forearm injury,” she said in a statement.

Sharapova first sustained the injury in Wuhan, where she was returning from a wrist injury, but then reached the semifinals of the WTA Finals in Singapore. However, the 28-year-old Russian also withdrew from her first event of the 2016 season in Brisbane before reaching the Australian Open quarterfinals, falling to Serena Williams.

She has not played since. The world No. 6 did attend Russia's Fed Cup loss to the Netherlands but did not take the court for any of the matches.
