TRELAZE, France (AP) Kristina Mladenovic beat Richel Hogenkamp 6-2, 6-4 to draw France level with the Netherlands in their Fed Cup semifinal after Kiki Bertens defeated Caroline Garcia 6-4 6-2 on Saturday.

Mladenovic, ranked 28th, broke the 139th-ranked Hogenkamp's serve five times.

Earlier, the strong-serving Bertens broke Garcia's serve four times in another lopsided contest.

''She served very well but I was far away from my best level,'' Garcia said. ''I was hurrying a bit on my forehand, and I wasn't hitting the ball early enough.''

Garcia won both of her singles in straight sets when France beat Italy 4-1 in the quarterfinals, but said the occasion got to her this time.

''Perhaps I was trying too hard,'' Garcia said. ''It's a pity, because it was a great atmosphere; it's the match you dream of playing in, so it's very frustrating.''

Reverse singles on Sunday are followed by doubles, with French pair Alize Cornet and Pauline Parmentier scheduled to play Cindy Burger and Arantxa Rus.

Two-time champion France beat the Netherlands in the final the last time they met in 1997, which is also the last time the Dutch reached the semifinals.

France's other title was in 2003, and it lost the 2005 final to Russia.
