Rafael Nadal may not have lifted the French Open trophy this year, but the nine-time champion did get to see his compatriots enjoy that same, familiar experience.

Nadal sent congratulations on Twitter to women's champion Garbine Muguruza and men's doubles champions Feliciano Lopez and Marc Lopez.

The 14-time Grand Slam champion, who withdrew mid-tournament with a wrist injury, said Muguruza's victory is great for Spanish tennis. This past week, while on an island on the Spanish coast, photographs showed his wrist strapped.

"Reading that tweet [sent by] Rafa, it’s great for us,” Muguruza said. “For Spanish people, this is the tournament.”

The men's doubles victory meant a lot to the 30-year-old. He’s friendly with Feliciano Lopez, but is especially close to Marc Lopez. The two have known each other since childhood and are former doubles partners. The French Open title was the first major trophy for both Feliciano and Marc.
