Patty Schnyder has received a wild card into Gstaad this week, her first appearance in a WTA draw since 2011.

The former Top 10 player retired in 2011, but playing league tennis made her decide to return to the tour in 2015. She has a daughter in 2014.

Schnyder did not set specific goals for the week.

"There've been challenges everywhere,” she said. “Every week I go, I find challenges. I'm not really watching the rankings too much, and most of the girls I don't even know. So I'm just trying to adapt, see how they play and feel good with myself and my tennis."

Since returning to competition, Schnyder has played mostly on the International Tennis Federation circuit, winning two $10,000 ITF Pro Circuit events and reaching a ranking of No. 338.

The 37-year-old said the game seems to be becoming more physical.

“It's really hard to tell, because I think you can only judge it once you play the girls,” she said. “It's not so easy to watch on TV and make a comment. Like I said, I was able to play in the German league, several matches against Top 100 players."

Most first-round matches in Gstaad have been postponed by rain.
