Marin Cilic will begin training with new coach Jonas Bjorkman this week following his title at the Western & Southern Open in Cincinnati.

The 27-year-old Croatian announced before the tournament that he would be adding the Swedish coach to his team, having recently decided to stop working with Goran Ivanisevic.

"I spoke with Jonas, and he was really, really excited to work with me,” Cilic told reporters this past week. “Even the idea, in the background of it, was for me to try to find somebody who could help me with my transition from the baseline to the net.”

Bjorkman was known for his volleying skills as a player, and was a Grand Slam semifinalist in singles and a multiple Grand Slam doubles champion. He has previously worked with Andy Murray.

"I felt that he might be really the person that could help me the most with that, as he was great in singles and also great in doubles, and obviously knows the game," said Cilic. "He's been working with Andy as well, so that's obviously another part that is a big plus."

Though Bjorkman was not in Cincinnati, Cilic said the two were in contact every day during the Masters tournament.

On Sunday, the world No. 9 became the fifth player on tour to win both a major and a Masters title, and he describes himself as a big-tournament player.

"I've been a little bit up and down with the form,” he said. “But when I feel that I'm playing great, I know that I'm going to always have a shot against top guys. Even, somehow, in the Grand Slams, I'm playing always [a] bit better than on Masters series events."
