Cheerleading isn’t an Olympic sport, but you might not have realized that if you were following Elena Vesnina on social media two years ago. The Sochi, Russia native was a walking, tweeting advertisement for the Winter Games when they came to her hometown; she even got to carry the Olympic torch.

Two years later, with Vesnina actually scheduled to compete in the Olympics, she’s tweeting up a different kind of storm. Scheduled is the key word here, as Vesnina hasn’t yet arrived in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, site of the 2016 Summer Games. That’s because of flight delays in Montreal, where Vesnina was competing with compatriot Ekaterina Makarova at the Rogers Cup in preparation for the Olympics.

As you’ll see in this string of increasingly frustrated tweets, Vesnina—who spent her 30th birthday in an airport terminal—wasn’t the only Olympian affected by the situation:

Italians Sara Errani and Roberta Vinci were also stuck in the wrong continent:

But even for those players who arrived in Rio, there’s still the matter of their luggage joining them. Australia’s Thanasi Kokkinakis made it to Brazil, where he’ll compete in his first tournament in 10 months, but his racquets didn’t—they were lost in transport.

“I’ll see what I can scrounge up to hit with and make do,” the 20-year-old said. “I’ll have to [borrow a racquet]—bring back the junior days."
