Stan Wawrinka is adjusting his game to get more consistency, according to his coach, Magnus Norman.

The 31-year-old won his third Grand Slam at the US Open, increasing his reputation for being what Novak Djokovic described as a "big-match player."

But Wawrinka is also aiming to contend for more titles throughout the season.

"[He's] very much up and down and that's something we work on every day, more or less every day," Norman said to journalists following Wawrinka's win over Djokovic in the final. "Still haven't found really the key, [the way] he can be a little bit more consistent. But when he's on, when he's playing a lot of matches, I think he's tough to beat."

This season, Wawrinka has won three non-major titles, and reached two other semifinals. Finding more consistency could mean curbing the big hitting that earned Wawrinka the US Open trophy.

"Stan is one of the few who can really hit through Novak if he has a good day. Even if I think at this tournament, Stan played a little bit differently than other Grand Slams," said Norman. "He played with a little bit more margin, a little bit more defending. That's something we talk about."

Wawrinka is at a career-high No. 3 in the rankings, behind Djokovic and Andy Murray.
