The season's top tennis performers are being recognized by their home countries. World No. 1s Andy Murray and Angelique Kerber, and Davis Cup champion Juan Martin del Potro, took home national awards for sporting achievement.

Murray won the BBC's Sports Personality of the Year award for a record third time.

“Thanks to everyone who voted for me,” he said. “It means a lot."

Murray received 247,419 votes. The second-place nominee got 121,665.

Kerber was the top female athlete in the Sportler des Jahres awards, receiving 4,664 votes to 1,920 for the second-highest nominee.

Del Potro took the Olimpia de Oro for the second time in his career. The Argentine won a silver medal at the Olympics and helped lead his country to its first Davis Cup title.

Del Potro, who returned this season from a third surgery on his left wrist, is No. 38 in the rankings.
