Gael Monfils has withdrawn from Miami with a left ankle injury, while Jo-Wilfried Tsonga has chosen not to play because his girlfriend is due to give birth to their first child.

"The examinations I underwent today revealed [cartilage damage] in the left kneecap and a tear of the left Achilles tendon," Monfils said.

The 30-year-old said that he would begin a rehab program to get back on the courts

They join fellow Frenchman Richard Gasquet on the sidelines, with Gasquet having previously withdrawn because of appendix surgery.

World No. 1 Andy Murray and No. 2 Novak Djokovic have also withdrawn from Miami with injuries.
