It wasn’t the final that we expected to see when the week began, but that didn’t make it any less intriguing.

In the first all-teen final since 2009, 19-year-old Daria Kasatkina defeated 19-year-old Jelena Ostapenko, 6-3, 6-1, to win the Volvo Car Open in Charleston for her first career singles trophy.

The former French Open girls’ champion, back into the Top 30 at No. 29, controlled the match from start to finish and benefitted from some sloppy play from the Latvian. Ostapenko, ranked 50th, committed 38 unforced errors in the defeat.

Both finalists were unseeded. Ostapenko upset fifth-seeded Caroline Wozniacki and 11th-seeded Mirjana Lucic-Baroni to reach the title match, while Kasatkina needed to beat just one seeded player—Irina-Camelia Begu—en route to the title.

In the doubles final, Bethanie Mattek-Sands and Lucie Safarova won their second title of the year together. The pair narrowly edged Lucie Hradecka and Katerina Siniakova, 6-1, 4-6, 10-7.
