Venus Williams wasn’t the only star to go down in Charleston on Wednesday.

World No. 11 Madison Keys, the top seed at the tournament, was knocked off by Charleston resident Shelby Rogers, 4-6, 6-1, 6-1, in the second round of the Volvo Car Open.

Rogers, who served as a ball girl at the tournament when she was a child, took 11 of the last 12 games to complete the comeback and pull off the upset.

“In the first set I felt like I was just connecting really well,” the world No. 52 told the Tennis Channel after the match. “I felt like my timing was really on today, so I just kept moving a little bit closer and closer as the match went on. Luckily it didn’t go away from me too much. I felt good, I felt like I was seeing the ball about this big. [I’m] glad I stuck it out till the end.”

Coming into the tournament, Rogers had gone just 1-4 in four previous appearances at her hometown event.

Rogers will play Naomi Osaka for a spot in the quarterfinals. Osaka defeated 13th-seeded Zhang Shuai, 6-4, 6-4, in the second round.
