PARIS—Karolina Pliskova has reached the fourth round at the French Open, but says that, at times, she is still too gloomy.

“I’m too negative sometimes,” she said. “And even on the court. So I want too much sometimes, and then I'm even missing even more than I would be missing. But we are trying to change this.”

But Pliskova has had a lot to be positive about this season, having won two tournaments (Brisbane and Doha) and currently sitting at No. 3 in the rankings.

Pliskova is now positioned to get to No. 2, as current world No. 2 Serena Williams is pregnant and out for the rest of the season. The Czech would also move into the top spot, in front of world No. 1 Angelique Kerber, if she were to reach the French Open final.

Though she has yet to win a big event on clay, she had a big run at a Grand Slam when she got to the final of the 2016 U.S. Open, falling against Kerber.
