Andy Roddick and Kim Clijsters garnered much of the attention in Newport this past weekend, but we didn’t forget about legendary wheelchair tennis player Monique Kalkman, who was inducted into the International Tennis Hall of Fame on Saturday.
The 52-year-old’s accomplishments are staggering. She’s a four-time International Tennis Federation world champion, a former No. 1 in singles and doubles, and a four-time Paralympic gold medalist. Three of those came in tennis, with the other coming in table tennis. To this day, she’s the only woman to take home Paralympic golds in two individual sports.
Kalkman sat down with Nick McCarvel in Newport to discuss her incredible career, how it feels to be enshrined in the Hall, some of her favorite memories and her optimistic vision and mindset.
