Defending US Open doubles champion Bethanie Mattek-Sands has long been a charismatic and beloved member of the traveling tennis circus. But during Wimbledon, she suffered a major injury that even threatened to end her career. While Bethanie recovers, she’s here in New York with #GameSetMattek—taking us behind the scenes with exclusive access to many members of the tennis community.

After giving Bethanie some motivation, Angelique Kerber told BMS about her trip to Miami ahead of the US Open.

Her favorite thing about the Big Apple? Hanging in Central Park, where last year’s champion loves to relax, read a book, listen to music and enjoy a cup of coffee.

Unfortunately for the former world No. 1, she had an early exit at Flushing Meadows this year, dropping her opener to Japanese teenager Naomi Osaka, 6-3, 6-1.
