Lucie Safarova is the newest WTA doubles No. 1, reaching the top spot following a semifinal appearance in Cincinnati with Barbora Strycova.

Safarova described herself as "happy and proud," having gotten to the top of the doubles rankings for the first time.

The Czech won the French Open and Australian Open, both with regular partner Bethanie Mattek-Sands, who is sidelined with injury and was the previous No. 1 in the rankings.

Safarova is also a former French Open singles finalist.
