Roger Federer has announced that he will play the ATP Masters event in Montreal.

The world No. 3 had previously said he would look at whether to play the event following his title victory at Wimbledon. Federer has not competed in Montreal since 2011 or played the Canadian event since 2014.

"I’m happy to be coming back to Montreal, as I have not had the chance to play there for many years," he said in a statement from tournament organizers.

Stan Wawrinka, meanwhile, has announced that he is withdrawing from both Montreal and Cincinnati to recover more fully from an injury that also bothered him at Wimbledon, where he fell in the first round.

"[U]nfortunately I have decided to skip Canada and Cincinnati to be on the safe side," he said in a statement, noting that the decision was made following "consultations with my doctors and my team."

"I need to be 100 percent confident before I resume competition," Wawrinka said.

Wawrinka is No. 4 in the rankings.
