Defending US Open doubles champion Bethanie Mattek-Sands has long been a charismatic and beloved member of the traveling tennis circus. But during Wimbledon, she suffered a major injury that even threatened to end her career. While Bethanie recovers, she’s here in New York with #GameSetMattek—taking us behind-the-scenes with exclusive access to many members of the tennis community.

Shelby Rogers is an optimist by nature, and she assured Bethanie during their chat that everything happens for a reason.

That comforted BMS, who appreciated her countrywoman’s approach to life both on the court and off.

As for playing at the US Open, Rogers feels overwhelmed with pride every time she comes to New York, and she encouraged fans to check out the Spice Market in the West Village. (Unfortunately, it appears that Rogers hasn’t been informed that the Asian restaurant has closed. Don’t tell her.)
