Garbine Muguruza says that 23-time Grand Slam champion Serena Williams is likely to return to the top of the game next year.

Williams just gave birth to a baby girl and has said she plans to play at the Australian Open.

“I think she will return to competition and she will be as dangerous as she has always been. It is incredible that after being a mother and the best player in the world], she still has the will and the hunger to return to competition," Muguruza [told *EFE*.

Having reached the No. 1 ranking, Muguruza says she is more calm now.

"I slept peacefully when I achieved it, but at the same time I am aware of the burden I am shouldering," the two-time Grand Slam champion said. “On one hand, what an achievement. But there is still a lot of work to do and it will be difficult."

Muguruza won her second Grand Slam title at Wimbledon, and then also took the title at Cincinnati. At the US Open, she lost against Petra Kvitova in the round of 16. The 23-year-old is playing in Tokyo, Japan, this week, and has improved her consistency during the second half of the season.

"I would not be here if it were not for my team—not just my coach [Sam Sumyk]—but also the people around me during this time who gave me a hand, helped me to learn how to play tennis, to improve mentally, to do a lot of things—this is a team.”
