Kei Nishikori, who has been sidelined with a wrist injury, may not return for the Australian Open.

Nishikori has not played since Montreal, announcing that he would not return to competition for the rest of the season.

Nishikori's coach has told Argentine radio that the layoff could be a bit longer. "This injury is very common, [Juan] Monaco, Kim [Clijsters] and [Belinda] Bencic all experienced it," said Dante Bottini.

The Argentine coach said Nishikori should be fit to play following the Australian Open, but doubted whether the 27-year-old could get back for the first major of the season.

But the former Grand Slam finalist has begun announcing some of the events he plans to play following the Australian Open.
