On Wednesday, Nick Kygrios and Thomas Berdych took to Twitter to announce that they are sitting out for the remainder of the 2017 season. Both players have stressed that they want to to be fully prepared to bounce back in 2018.

Kyrgios, the current world No. 20, has not won a tournament this season, but has made strides both on and off the court. The Australian suffered a tough loss to Rafael Nadal in the final in Beijing, before retiring from his first round against Steve Johnson in Shanghai and losing to Ruben Bemelmans in his Antwerp opener.

The 22-year-old has been dealing with a hip injury since Queen's Club.

Berdych, meanwhile, is currently ranked No. 18 in the world. The 32-year-old reached just one final in 2017 (Lyon), but also appeared in the Wimbledon semifinals. He should have a few more deep runs or titles in him if he can stay healthy in 2018.

Berdych and Kyrgios are far from the only top players to cut their seasons short. They join Novak Djokovic, Stan Wawrinka, Andy Murray, Milos Raonic and Kei Nishikori.
