David Goffin looked like a man that was ready to duck out of London after getting demolished by Grigor Dimitrov, but the Belgian bounced back with a 6-4, 6-1 victory over Dominic Thiem on Friday.

With the win, Goffin has secured a spot in an ATP Finals semifinal meeting with Roger Federer. Thiem, meanwhile, is heading home for the offseason.

This is a crushing blow for the Austrian, who led 3-0 in the first set. The 24-year-old looked to be in total control of the match, but he then appeared to mentally check out. Goffin would hold serve and then break Thiem right back. From there, the Belgian cruised to a victory.

Thiem was an unforced-error machine on Wednesday, and he'll now have some time to think about how he played over the past couple of months. The Austrian badly struggled after his loss to Juan Martin del Potro at the US Open. He has had some trouble closing out matches, which is something he'll need to focus on the most moving forward. If he can't keep his cool on the court then he will never live up to his potential.

Goffin, meanwhile, must now prepare for a huge match against Federer. The Belgian is 0-6 in his career against Roger, which isn't necessarily going to instill much confidence. Goffin is, however, playing with nothing to lose. Nobody expects him to win this match, so that should allow him to play loose.

Regardless of how the match turns out, there will be more tennis for Goffin this year—next week's Davis Cup final, where he is hoping to carry Belgium to a victory over France.
