Nick Kygios is staying positive following his fourth-round defeat to Grigor Dimitrov at the Australian Open.

The 22-year-old Australian called his performance a big improvement on 2017, when he dropped a two-set lead against Andreas Seppi in the second round. While he still does not have a coach, Kyrgios said he is now more motivated to improve and is consulting with Davis Cup captain Lleyton Hewitt and Davis Cup coach Jason Stoltenberg.

"I feel like I have more of a vision and goal," he said. "You know, there was periods where I stepped on the court where I was just doing it for the sake of doing it. In the offseason, I didn't really have a coach but I was working on two things that I thought I needed to work on was my volleys and transitioning and my forehand return."

The No. 17 had not dropped a match this season until the fourth-round encounter, and got a win against against Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in the third round.

"Yeah, I won a tournament in Brisbane. I gave my best efforts this week," he said. "I'm pretty happy with my Aussie summer. I thought I played well."

Kyrgios is next scheduled to play Davis Cup, where the Australian team will meet the Germans in the opening round.
