Top-ranked American singles players Jack Sock and John Isner won the doubles at Indian Wells, upending multiple Grand Slam champions Bob and Mike Bryan.

Both Sock and Isner said it is one of the toughest doubles tournaments to win—a lot of the top singles players also enter the doubles at Indian Wells—because the tournament is played across 12 days rather than just seven days like most other tour events.

"It's big," said Isner. "This is arguably the toughest doubles tournament all year because of how many singles players also play doubles here. So for that, it's pretty cool for Jack and I to say that we really went through the whole draw and won this event."

It is Isner and Sock's second Masters title together, with their first coming at Shanghai two years ago. Isner has also won 2011 Rome with Sam Querrey. Sock has previously won 2014 Wimbledon, and 2015 at Indian Wells, both with Canadian Vasek Pospisil.

“We haven't really played that much together. We have played four Masters Series ever together, and we have won two of them," said Isner.

Sock said their friendship and the local fans helped keep them pumped during the tournament, despite their defeats in singles.

''[Isner's] probably my best buddy on tour," Sock told press. "But anytime you get on the court and you're American playing in this tournament, the crowds are always insane and it always gives you extra energy.”

Their doubles success comes during a poor period for both in singles. Isner is 2-6 for the season following his opening-round defeat in Indian Wells, while Sock, despite winning a round, is 2-5 for the season.

Isner suggested the title could help them get that "winning feeling" again—even in singles, where their rankings will be dropping next week.

Querrey, who reached the singles quarterfinals, is moving in front as the top-ranked American in singles.
