Kevin Anderson reveals he had to call his physio during the night following his semifinal victory against John Isner at Wimbledon.

Anderson won the semifinal 26-24 in the fifth, playing six hours and 36 minutes—the longest Grand Slam semifinal and the third-longest men's match in history. He had also played more than four and half hours in the quarterfinals.

"I really had to dig deep. It was very emotional getting through," Anderson told TennisTV. "When you're on court for that length of time, the feet take a bit of a beating."

That would become even more evident when he finally got off them. The 32-year-old South African described going to bed just an hour before he "woke up around 4:30 [a.m.]" and his feet "literally felt on fire."

"I told my wife, you need to go and call my physio, Charlie," said Anderson. "It's a job that requires all hours of the day.

"But that's what it sort of takes...to get through those sorts of matches."

Anderson got a day off before having to play the final, where he fell to Novak Djokovic in three sets but played a competitive third set. Given the circumstances, he was satisfied with his physical performance, saying, "I thought I did okay with it.''

Not to mention getting to his second Grand Slam final.

"All in all, there were so many positives," he said, "to take from this whole fortnight."

Anderson has moved up to No. 5 in the rankings.
