Elina Svitolina caught a bit of a break in her first match in Dubai, as Ons Jabeur was forced to retire in the second set. The Ukrainian was in a good position to win the match, leading 7-6 (4), 4-0. But she will ultimately be happy with the fact that she didn't need to sweat out the ending.

Svitolina is coming off a nice run in Doha, where the world No. 6 made it to the semifinals. Svitolina eventually lost in a tough three-setter against Simona Halep, but she has to be encouraged with the way she played throughout the week.

Next up for Svitolina is a match against Garbine Muguruza. The Spaniard might have had a rough 2018 season, but she is still a two-time Grand Slam champion. The match should be highly competitive, as both players will be eager to make it to the quarterfinals.
