The top 21-year-olds in tennis are both withdrawing with injury from their events next week—Naomi Osaka will not play the WTA event in Doha, and Alexander Zverev will not appear at Rotterdam as scheduled.

World No. 1 Osaka is coming off a victory at the Australian Open, and is also not playing this week's Fed Cup tie for Japan.

Osaka said in a statement that she had been "looking forward to playing and seeing my fans there" in Doha but will not be competing because of a back injury.

Zverev withdrew from Rotterdam with an ankle injury, the tournament announced. The German also had ankle problems at Hopman Cup, but competed at the Australian Open and also played two singles matches for Germany in Davis Cup a week ago.

Having won the ATP Finals to finish the 2018 season, Zverev "didn't have a very long offseason, didn't have a lot of rest," he said at the Australian Open.

Zverev's older brother, Mischa, has also withdrawn from the event.

Tomas Berdych, whose ranking has dropped following an injury layoff, has received a wild card.
