Venus Williams is coming off an impressive run in Indian Wells, where the 38-year-old lost to Angelique Kerber in a tough quarterfinal match.

The American is now looking to build on that performance in Miami, and she got off to a good start on Thursday. Williams faced Dalila Jakupović in her opening match, and she ended up winning, 7-5, 6-3.

Williams was in control from the start of the match, and she has really looked dialed in over the last couple of weeks.

Next up for the seven-time Grand Slam champion is a meeting with Carla Suarez Navarro. Williams is 6-3 in her career against the Spaniard, and that includes wins in each of their last four matches. But Suarez Navarro is a tricky player, and Williams knows she has to be at her best in order to advance.
