Like everyone who was hoping to hit balls on Tuesday in Miami, Frances Tiafoe had some free time. The rain delay gave way to an extensive conversation with the 21-year-old ahead of this week's Miami Open.

Tiafoe is in the midst of a strong 2019 season, having reached the first Grand Slam quarterfinal of his career at the Australian Open. And while the 21-year-old lost to Nicolas Jarry in the opening round of the BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells, he is still feeling good about his game heading in this week's Masters 1000 event in South Beach.

Tiafoe said that he is relaxed and enjoying the new facilities, and now he'll just need to dial in and figure out a way to be tougher in crucial points. The American has let quite a few leads slip away this season, but that should improve as he continues to play more matches on big stages.

This week's event also happens to be the first time Tiafoe is seeded at a Masters 1000 event, which is a big deal for him. Because of the seeding, Tiafoe will get an extra round of rest before playing. But having a number next to his name at a tournament like this isn't enough for a player of his caliber. Tiafoe let it be known that he'd love to crack the Top 20 this season, and he has his heart set on winning a few events before the end of the year.

There would be no better place to start than in Miami, where last year, American John Isner posted the biggest result of his career, in victory.
