On May 31, 2009, Soderling pulled off what is still probably one of the biggest upsets in tennis history, beating Nadal in the fourth round of the French Open, 6-2, 6-7 (2), 6-4, 7-6 (2). Nadal had been 31-0 at Roland Garros going into the match.

He will be first player in tennis history, male or female, to achieve the feat at a Slam. He has a 344-55 record in the first 399.

Federer is trying to become the oldest man to reach the round of 16 at a major since a 39-year-old Jimmy Connors did it at the 1991 US Open

The 37-year-old Federer is also trying to become the oldest man to reach the round of 16 at Roland Garros since a 38-year-old Nicola Pietrangeli in 1972.

Nadal and Federer are both going for a round of 16 record at Roland Garros

They’re both trying to reach the round of 16 in Paris for the 14th time, which would set a new men’s all-time record—they currently share the record with Budge Patty, who did it 13 times from 1946 to 1958.

Karolina Pliskova is trying to become the first woman to win 30 matches this year

A win over Petra Martic would give her that milestone. Martic leads the head-to-head 3-1, and has won 13 of her last 15 matches, though.

Garbine Muguruza has won 25 of her last 29 matches at Roland Garros.

The Spaniard, who has reached the second week the last five years in a row here, tries to make that six as she faces Elina Svitolina.

Stan Wawrinka is going for the ‘Dimitrov Slam’ today

Wawrinka is 3-0 against Grigor Dimitrov at majors, beating the Bulgarian at the Australian Open in 2011 and at Wimbledon and the US Open in 2018. If he can beat his fellow former world No. 3 at Roland Garros, he’ll have the first ever ‘Dimitrov Slam.'

Wawrinka is also going for the milestone 500th tour-level win of his career against Dimitrov.

Sloane Stephens’s opponent is 1-23 against Top 10 players

Polona Hercog’s only win over a Top 10 player came against Marion Bartoli on green clay at Charleston in 2012. Like Stephens, Bartoli was a No. 7.

Nicolas Mahut is going for history, too

If he beats Leonardo Mayer, he’ll reach the round of 16 for the first time in his 17th appearance at Roland Garros—the record for most tries before reaching the round of 16 here.
