Top 5 photos, 5/30: Safarova honored, Hoang's heroics, Serena sublime

It was another spectacular day of clay-court tennis in Paris. These photos aid in summing up the highlights from Day 5 at Roland Garros.

1. Former Top 5 singles player and doubles No. 1 Lucie Safarova retired from professional tennis after her first-round doubles defeat with Dominika Cibulkova on Wednesday. A day later, Safarova was recognized for her achievements and contributions to the sport. Safarova is a former singles finalist and two-time doubles champion at Roland Garros.

2. Antoine Hoang is rising to the occasion at this year's Roland Garros. The Frenchman received a wild card into the main draw and continued to make great use of it, upsetting Fernando Verdasco in four sets to reach the third round.

3. It's back to business for Serena Williams as she rolled past Kurumi Nara, 6-3, 6-2. Williams came out much more composed and controlled the match from the start, vastly different from her opening match.

4. It was a testing day at the office for Austria's Dominic Thiem but he staved off Alexander Bublik, 6-3, 6-7 (6), 6-3, 7-5. While his Thursday match was not pretty, he is now 20-5 at the clay-court Grand Slam championship and remains a viable threat to win his first major.

5. Ekaterina Alexandrova powered her way past Samantha Stosur to claim the match, 3-6, 6-1, 6-4. The loss could potentially drop Stosur out of the Top 100 for the first time since 2004.
