10 Things to Know, Day 11: Halep has never lost a quarterfinal at RG

Once she makes it to the quarterfinals here, she has never lost before the final—she is 3-0 in quarterfinals and 3-0 in semifinals.

Trivia: Ashleigh Barty’s the only woman to reach the quarters of both majors so far this year. Who are the three men to do it? Check back tomorrow for the answer.

The last spots in the semifinals are up for grabs

That’s two men’s quarterfinals, Novak Djokovic-Alexander Zverev and Dominic Thiem-Karen Khachanov; and two women’s quarterfinals, Simona Halep-Amanda Anisimova and Barty-Madison Keys.

The two biggest wins of Zverev’s career have come against Djokovic

His two career wins over Djokovic when he was No. 1 (2018 ATP Finals Finals) and No. 2 (2017 Rome final) are his only Top 2 wins.

Zverev has never beaten a Top 10 player at a Slam, though

His fourth round win over No. 12 Fabio Fognini was his first Top 20 win at a major—he had been 0-7. He hasn’t beaten a Top 10 player at a major (0-5).

Djokovic has won 11 of his last 12 matches against Top 5 players at Grand Slams

Djokovic left the 2014 French Open with a 16-18 record against Top 5 players at majors, but he has since gone 11-1. His only loss to a Top 5 player at a Slam in almost five years: No. 3 Stan Wawrinka in the 2016 US Open final.

Djokovic is playing a record 10th straight French Open quarterfinal

He is the first man in the history of tennis to reach 10 straight French Open quarterfinals—not even Rafael Nadal has done this.

Khachanov is on a 10-match winning streak in Paris

He went 6-0 to win his first Masters 1000 title in Paris at the end of last year, and 4-0 to reach his first Grand Slam quarterfinal here at Roland Garros.

His 10-match winning streak in the French capital includes five Top 10 wins—Thiem is ranked No. 4.

Halep has never lost a quarterfinal (or semifinal) at Roland Garros

Once she makes it to the quarterfinals here, she has never lost before the final—she is 3-0 in quarterfinals and 3-0 in semifinals.

Anisimova is playing a Top 3 player for the first time

She has played five Top 10 players, beating one of them—No. 9 Kvitova at Indian Wells last year)—but No. 3 Halep is her first Top 3 opponent.

Keys has won 29 of her last 35 matches at majors

She has now reached the quarters or better at five of the last seven Slams, and with a win today, it will be semis or better at four of the last seven.

It’s the 20-year anniversary of Graf’s 22nd and last Grand Slam

On June 5, 1999, Graf edged Hingis in a dramatic French Open final, 4-6, 7-5, 6-2, for the 22nd major of her career. It was the most Slams in the Open Era, male or female, until Serena passed her in 2017—will any of the Big 3 pass her?

Trivia Answer: The last time two first-time Slam quarterfinalists played each other in a major quarterfinal had been the 2019 Australian Open for the men (Stefanos Tsitsipas against Roberto Bautista Agut—Tsitsipas won) and the 2018 US Open for the women (Naomi Osaka against LesiaTsurenko—Osaka won).
