By Any Other Name: Finding hidden sugars

By Dana Sullivan

There are more than 20 different types of sugar, all of them “natural.” So even though the sugar added to foods may be from natural sources, it’s best to cut down on foods with added sugar. “Just because the sugars come from nature, doesn’t mean you have a green light to consume them,” says sports dietician Amy Jamieson-Petonic. • Maltitol
• High fructose corn syrup
• Dextrose
• Turbinado
• Levulose
• Maltose
