How It Tested
Perhaps it’s not the first of its kind, but the Fischer Pro No. 1 X-Lite is pretty unique. It has many of the characteristics of an advanced player’s frame with one glaring difference – it weighs less than 10 ounces. Fischer has taken the mold of the Pro. No. 1 model that Yevgeny Kafelnikov made famous, and removed some of the guts to drop weight. So while it’s light and maneuverable, it has very little power. And where most lightweight models are stiff with thick beam widths, the X-Lite is flexible with a thin beam, which, combined with the lack of heft, makes it a little unstable on off-center hits. The end result is an unusual feel that caught some playtesters by surprise. As one 4.5 male baseliner put it: “It’s very light and easy to swing, but it’s hard to generate a lot of pace. Yet putting spin on the ball was easy.” Indeed it’s a racquet that favors touch and placement over power. Delicate drops, sharp angles, and topspin lobs are the best shots to hit with this stick. Couple that with the easy handling at net and the X-Lite should appeal to all-courters and doubles specialists who need a lightweight frame.
