FIRST TAKE:
New Balance shoes are famous for exceptional cushioning. This model is a slight departure as it puts more emphasis on stability in an effort to appeal to serious players.

HOW IT TESTED:
The CT/WCT 1002 has good support around the heel and an integrated lacing system—you thread the shoestrings through the upper for more stability. After you break in the shoe, which is a bit stiff at first, it’s quite comfortable, playtesters said—though if you’re expecting a super-soft ride, you might be disappointed. Of course, like all New Balance shoes, this one comes in various widths to accommodate virtually all foot types.

BOTTOM LINE:
It delivers decent cushioning but does a better job of providing stability for serious players.
