SALES PITCH:
The flagship model in the New Balance tennis line, the 1200 is a well-cushioned shoe designed for aggressive movers.

FINAL ANALYSIS:
By putting Abzorb EX (a combination foam-and-air packet) in the heel and another shock absorber in the forefoot, New Balance has made a cushy shoe. This extra padding doesn’t help on the scales, but what’s impressive about the 1200 is that it plays lighter than it is. In other words, weartesters didn’t feel that the shoe slowed them down. The mesh perforated upper provides good ventilation and the high-abrasion toe wrap is a real plus for players who drag their toes. There may not have been any outstanding scores for the 1200, but like a good all-court player, it does everything well.
