Seven racquet companies, two frames from each. One is sure to be a perfect match for your game.

HOW WE TEST: Several samples were requested of every racquet reviewed. Each model was either strung with the manufacturer’s recommended string and tension, or such a string was provided, to optimize the frame’s performance. Racquets were then distributed to our playtesters located throughout the country. Each tester was encouraged to try a racquet for as long as it took to get a feel for its particular playing characteristics, including power, control, comfort, maneuverability and overall playability. In addition to forming their own opinions, they sought assessments from playing partners, students and customers. A special note of thanks to Kevin Brandt, Mitchell Case, James Golden, and Kin Roseborough for their valuable contributions.

Player Profile:

Steady and Cerebral

Tester Quote:

“The feel, control, and level of power are just about perfect for someone who wants something a little more forgiving than a pure player’s frame.”

How It Tested:

+ The new string pattern opened up the string bed and created a deeper ball pocket, higher arc on shots and easier pace.

+ Favored precision and control, but still produced enough power without having to overswing.

+ Foam-filled beam filtered out vibrations and fostered a clean, crisp and classic response, with good ball connection at contact.

- It can feel stiff and unfriendly outside of the sweet spot, especially when strung with a firm poly.

Player Profile:

Control Freak

Tester Quote:

“In the hands of the right player, I think it’s right there with any of the heavier players’ frames on the market.”

How It Tested:

+ Responded well to fast, full cuts, rewarding shots with man-ageable pace and dependable placement.

+ More open string pattern when compared to the previous version provided a higher launch angle for easier depth and spin generation.

+ The foam-filled constant beam displayed the touch and all-around shot-making needed to be an effective all-court asset.

- Unforgiving and unsteady at times for its weight, especially when defending faster shots like the return of serve.
