Former Wimbledon semifinalist Hubert Hurkacz is watching the tournament "from the sofa" this year after recent arthroscopic knee surgery.

Last year, the Polish star tore his right meniscus during his second-round Wimbledon match against Arthur Fils. Injuries have continued to impact him in 2025, and after withdrawing from the fortnight at SW19, the 28-year-old announced Friday that he went under the knife earlier this week.

“Over the past few weeks, I’ve been dealing with knee issues, such as pain, fluid build-up and other problems that made it hard to train and compete,” Hurkacz wrote on socia media Friday. “After exploring different options, we decided that having an arthroscopy this past Monday was the best solution.

“During the procedure, the overgrown synovial membrane causing the inflammation, pain and related issues were removed. A huge thank you to Dr. Bartlomiej Kacprzak who performed the surgery.”

Currently No. 39 in the ATP rankings, Hurkacz is 15-11 this year, and was runner-up to Novak Djokovic in Geneva during the clay-court season, the tournament at which the Serb won his 100th career singles title. After a first-round loss to Joao Fonseca at Roland Garros, the Pole played just one match on grass in 's-Hertogenbosch before withdrawing, and also pulled out the tournament in Halle, which he won in 2022 and was the runner-up in 2024.

“I’m now starting my recovery and will only come back when I’m 110% ready to compete again” Hurkacz added. “Thanks so much for all the support, it really means a lot to me and can’t wait to be back on court."
