Their Indian Wells campaigns may have each ended in crushing fashion, but Naomi Osaka and Amanda Anisimova ensured their next tournament stop began with a night of enjoyment.

Ahead of the Miami Open, Osaka and Anisimova took up an invitation to attend a party hosted by Kim Kardashian celebrating the opening of her new pop-up shop, SKIMS Swim. Kardashian rocked a piece of her swimwear while posing for photos with the two WTA competitors.

Anisimova’s Instagram caption was summed up in one emoji: 👑. “Stop itttt,” commented Anett Kontaveit.

At the BNP Paribas Open, Osaka exited in the second round to Veronika Kudermetova after struggling to get past a “you suck” comment made by a heckler in the stands. The four-time major winner addressed the crowd afterwards and later posted on social media, “Very proud of myself for reaching a point in my life that despite the lows, I would still rather be myself than anyone else.”

In the same stage, Anisimova couldn’t convert four match points against Leylah Fernandez and retired with illness after dropping the second set in a tiebreak. Before the tournament started, coach Darren Cahill abruptly ended their partnership. He cited mental fatigue on his social media upon returning home.

Anisimova, who ended Naomi Osaka’s Australian Open title defense in a third-round thriller, was due on court Tuesday to open her Miami bid against countrywoman Shelby Rogers. The Japanese superstar is scheduled to play Astra Sharma in her first-round match Wednesday.

The WTA 1000 event at Hard Rock Stadium is a home event of sorts for both players given their strong ties to the South Florida community—Anisimova with Miami suburb Aventura and Osaka up I-95 with Boca Raton.
