"Am I?": Serena asks press if she's ranked inside Top 10

Serena Williams hasn't played since she fell to Naomi Osaka in the semifinals of this year's Australian Open, but the 23-time major champion is set to make her return on red clay in Rome.

"At the same time, it's good to start fresh but it's also hard to start fresh..but whatever," Serena told press on Monday.

A four-time winner at the Internazionali BNL d'Italia, Serena opens her campaign against 2020 Roland Garros semifinalist Nadia Podoroska, who fended off Laura Siegemund in three sets.

"Everyone gears up for Top 10 players and so...if I'm in the Top 10 I will be ready. Am I? I don't even know where I am," Serena said with a smile.

A few minutes later, Serena was asked if there are times when she checks in on social commentary about her training. To little surprise, the current No. 8 said it rarely crosses her mind.

"I don't do a lot of sports content, so I do feel like people are wondering if I'm playing and I have to say—I always am you just don't see it. I don't show what I do. I don't always show my cards. But yeah, for the most part I just never ever ever ever pay attention," the American said.

It's clear Serena manages to tune out the social media scene—and apparently the rankings.
